Rue (Ruda) Smudge Stick

Smoke clearing sticks (smudge sticks) are bundles of herbs that are dried and burned for purification and ceremonial uses. The term “smudging” often refers to Native American practices, and so other folks often use “smoke clearing” (or “saining”) instead. These 'herb bundles' are a good way to bring a bit of ceremony into the everyday.

Rue symbolizes the destruction of evil and ill intentions. It is believed to attract luck and good fortune by transforming the negative energy into positive energy. Carry a small piece of Ruda leaf in your wallet to attract money. It is commonly burned in smudging practices as a purification and protection herb.

Each bundle is approximately 4 inches.

Burning instructions:

Make sure you have your windows and doors open before you light your smudge stick. Then light the smudge stick (any of the above) by holding over a flame, then once lit, gently blow out the flame, thus allowing the smudge stick to smolder.

Fan the smoke into each room and corner of your home with the intention of visualizing the space to be clear of any energy and infuse love and golden light fill the space. To smudge yourself, fan the smoke around your aura with the intention that your energy is being cleansed and protected.

Please do not leave a burning smudge stick unattended. To extinguish the smudge stick, just place the lit end in a fire proof container filled with sand and dab out the sage stick.
